Exactly how did you answer the question??? I believe Robz wanted to know that's why he's asking the question and the reason why he's up in here. By the way, Samoa was not created in the begining of time. Thanks.

Robz, if I'm not mistaken you're a Samoan. There should be at least one of the adults in your family that should have some idea about the story about TUNA,FATA & SAVEA.(The three brothers that drove the Tongans out of the Samoan group).
And don't make fun of the Samoan Heritage and history. You are not a king. So grow up man.

Malietoa Tanumafili II
King of Samoa since 1962

as far as I know, executive power is vested in the Head of State FOR LIFE by a member of the ROYAL family..who, at the moment is Malietoa Tanumafili II...so he could be considered a King in that respect..

Makuai oki kele le kou general knowledge o Samoa. Samoa has no king u vastis. King is head of a monarchy which Samoa is not like Tonga is a monarchy. We have a Head of State(HOS) and council of deputies. Our HOS has no real powers as the govt runs the country. When our current head of state passes(hopefully not soon) the next HOS is chosen from the council of deputies. Originally in 1962 there were four main deputies from the four families Mataafa, Tamasese, Malietoa and Tuimalealiifano. However the cabinet can appoint deputies such was the case with the late Vaai Kolone and Faumuina from Lepea.
Ia ua lava lega history lesson.

I always think of Malietoa as our king no matter the label that is put on him. I have respect for him as he has seen us through all these years. I am no relation to the man (being from the west of Savaii) but tend to go along when people here in Aus refer to him as our king.

Anyway, we are all kings, but we also have a king in heaven.

Tut tut.

Malietoa Tanumafili II is king but because Samoa became an independent nation it's changed king to head of state, palagi invaders are 2 blame for that. Though he has been given been the opportunity to have tghe royal treatment but Malietoa is a humble man and wants to live a normal life and b on the low key. It's no wonder why Samoa has so much respect for him.

So why doesn't he just change the title to be a King instead of Head of State? The Samoans don't need to follow the Europeans way of government eventhough they changed it (if that is what you meant by palagi). Did you mean that he had the opportunity to take that title to be a King and he was humble and didn't want too? I was a little confused. I agree with Oute Ofo, he is the Head of State. Samoa is not run by a monarchy form of government. Because than if he is the King, than when he passes away than one of his sons would have to take the lead. But that is not the case sounds like a council in Samoa will choose the next head of state is that right?

Once again: Samoa is not a monarchy as the last person has just reiterated. By the way Samoa didn't have a king before the palagis' arrived. If u read our history the four main high chiefs in 1900 were fighting over Samoa so much with no real resolution they called upon the 4 Superpowers to come and help them hence the start of Colonialism in Samoa. In which Samoa decided they had enough of the colonists marched to be free of Germany and later NZ. When NZ was about to leave it was a dilemma once again who would take over the country. THankfully our four main chiefs decided to settle for HOS status and take turns in doing so. They would not declare a king because there was never one king. If one chief won the others would soon attack and the other high chief would declare himself king...hence is the term Head of State which was chosen from the four main families to start with. But the constitution now allows for Cabinet to choose deputies to the HOS of which in the event of the passing of a HOS the next HOS will be voted in by parliament from the council of deputies which currently include Tupua Tamasese, Tuimalealiifano and I can't remember who else at the moment. It is a dilemma in Samoa at the moment on whether who will become the next HOS. But his Highness Malietoa is alive and well so I pray that we don't have to worry about it too much till then. Fa laia. History 101 heh heh!

I think that i would call our head of state a king..but my grandfather told me too, that he is the most humble man and that when asked what is his role for samoan people to him, he swiftly replied.."The people of samoa,do not serve me, i am here to serve them" and in another questions asked why is it,that he does not have a big house and security guards like, the king of tonga..to which he replied.."why should i have all those things?, when the people of samoa don't have those things?", now i say he is aking in my eyes

This king thing doesn't bother me at all. So what if so and so is a king. I know only one true king.....GOD...All these man made kings their authority will die, so as them..We have a very humble Head of State. I take my hat out to him.I salute him for being such a great leader..But for all these other 'man-made' kings, the abuse of power, becoming a king through bloodshed and suppressing other people, I know a place for them....HELL.... Yeah the devil is going to have a lot of fun with them....He has a big stick too like a garden rake

King or no King, doesn't bother me one bit. Take a look at what's happening in Tonga. We do not want our small country go thru' that. We would like our islands to see it arbiter of peace for all islands in the pacific. We would like our gov. to be true to the constitution, an instrument inspired by the spirit of wisdon from God.
He's our Mighty King and the only King. Man made King go no where, they will be judged the same as all of us, on the Judgement Day. Ia Manuia

Actually I think you missed what we meant tausala. I specifically acknowledged my respects for Malietoa..The rest of the posting was about the other kings.(other countries)..hopefully the new Tongan king is not one of them, because the stories from some close Tongan friends here are kind of shivering. He is the reason for all the riots....

I wanted to add that there are quite a few excellent documentary books and references out there like the Volume I by Augustin Kramer written in the late 1800 that tell us how Samoa kingship came to being, and who the first king/queen was; now some of our readers joke about it because they don't know? plus most people joke about something to hide their lack of understanding.

Jack, dude a palagi wrote that book..What does he know about the Samoan kingship?..Get a grip dude...If you didn't get a chance to be told the true story by a Samoan elder that book can be misleading. That palagi didn't have anything to write about back then, then he saw some money making gig...he jumped on it...
Check out any books written by Koke Aiono or Dr Fanaafi or any Samoan authors.I wouldn't waste my time on any palagi's book.

Yeah I'm with TK on this one, Don't take the palagi word or his-story as true and factual.

Especially from Kramer! That dick wrote hes original findings in the German language, after translating what he thought he heard in the Samoan language, and then later on another palagi dude translated the German text to English! how munted is that!?!

Don't bother with Kramer his work has been lost in translations, just ask one of the samoan oldies, about our history.
