Yes - it is a rather sad time for our family as we mourn the loss of a great man with a great heart.
My hat goes off to him for all that he has done in his time. Whether it had been good or bad decisions made, but it was all for the well being of the immediate & extended family including the village of Lalomanu.
Being the daughter of one of his former chief orators (too'oto'o), it was a blessing and an honour to have him attend & speak @ my father's funeral (Seuala Soaa).
May God bring peace to you Shan & children @ this time. I know exactly what you're going through - as i once experienced it @ the loss of my own father. Fuataga is no longer in suffering & has come to rest in a better place.

The paramount chief of Lalomanu, Fuataga Kasimani Lautusi, has passed away in New Zealand. The death of a leader who is addressed in Samoan with much reverence as the Tui Atua Faanofonofo is the source of sadness for members of his family, village, church, friends and people who knew him well.

Fuataga Kasimani died at Napa Hospital in New Zealand, on Wednesday. He was 55. Police Commissioner and cousin, Lilomaiava Fou Taioalo says Fuataga died from a heart condition. The paramount chief had an operation last month and the Police Commissioner says he had shown some positive signs.

But the news on Wednesday confirmed the familys worst fears. Lilomaiava says they are still trying to come to terms with the news. It is hard to believe that he has died, says Lilomaiava. Although we knew he was sick and had been taken to New Zealand for treatment, we were strong in our belief he would recover.

Unfortunately, this is a very sad time for our family as we have lost a person who is very dear and special to us. The Police Commissioner says Fuataga was a family man. He always put his family first above anything else. He showed full commitment to everything he did and he put in extra effort when it comes to his family.

The Police Commissioner flew to New Zealand on Friday night to help with arrangements to bring Fuatagas body home. We are looking at bringing him over early next week (this week).

Given the status of the title he holds and the respect that is accorded in Samoa, we expect the funeral to be a very big occasion. Lilomaiava could not confirm when he will be buried. Fuataga is a businessman, a politician and sports administrator.

He owns KL Security, the biggest security firm in Samoa and he is also the President of the KL Taekwando Association. Fuataga contested a couple of General Elections but was unsuccessful. He is survived by his wife Shan Fuataga and their children including World Champion taekwondo fighter, Kaino Fuataga.

In all due respect to the families of the deceased I ask that footage be taken of the funeral as it takes place in our homeland. These high-titled funerals are the source of all virtues of FA'A SAMOA and for plastic Samoans like myself, footage of the occasion would be awesome.

Happy to pay for shipping/handling if it is made into DVD format.

Thank you.
