The Future King of Tonga HRH Prince Ahoeitu Tukuaho celebrates his royal engagement today to Her Ladyship the Lady Sinitakala Tuimatamoana Fakafanua of Maufanga.

Congratulations to the future King and Queen of Tonga. The Prince is the eldest son of the Crown Prince Tupoutoa Lavaka and Crown Princess Nanasipau'u Tukuaho. He is studying in Canberra Australia and Lady Sinaitakala is a Teacher at Queen Salote Girls School in Nukualofa. She is the daugher of the late Hon. Fakafanua Tutoatasi.

As Tongas constitution requires royals marry royals, the only hope for avoiding marriage of cousins has been to bring in members of the royal families of Samoa and Fiji. But they have shown little interest.

Critics have also claimed Christian theology outlaws marriage between cousins, although second cousins are acceptable.

Now I'm no expert on the Tongan Monarchy but surely this constitutional requirement should be amended at once?

We're living in the 21st century for goodness sake. Marrying your second cousin has no place in the age of enlightenment.

The Kingdom should move to remove this particular cause in the constitution. Tongan royals should be permitted to marry commoner hehe.

I laughed at this line - the only hope for avoiding marriage of cousins has been to bring in members of the royal families of Samoa and Fiji. But they have shown little interest.

This should hurt every Tongan out there lol.

TONGAN PRINCE WOOS PRINCESS IN ROYAL MATCH Both great-grandchildren of late Queen Salote NUKUALOFA, Tonga (Matangi Tonga, July 29, 2011) - Prince 'Ulukalala (26), second in line to the Tongan throne, is courting Hon Sinaitakala Tu'imatamoana Fakafanua (24). The pair, who are both great-grandchildren of the late Queen Salote, were matched in a Faitohi ceremony held by their families at Ma'ufanga on July 28. The Faitohi ceremony is a traditional Tongan courting ritual in which Prince 'Ulukalala officially asked for Hon Sinaitakala's hand in marriage at her residence Siatapu at Ma'ufanga. Prince 'Ulukalala is the eldest son of Crown Prince Tupouto'a Lavaka and Princess Nanasipau'u Tuku'aho. Hon. Sinaitakala is the only daughter of Princess 'Ofeina Fakafanua and the late Fakafanua (Tutoatasi). The match is being made within the confines of the Royal Family. Prince 'Ulukala'a's father is a first cousin of both of Hon. Sinaitakala's parents. It was joyous occasion for both families attended by Crown Prince Tupouto'a Lavaka and Princess Mele Siu'ilikutapu accompanied by many relatives. Also present was Princess Nanasipau'u Tuku'aho and her mother Baroness Tuputupu Vaea. Attending the Faitohi was Tupou 'Ahome'e Tuita Faupula who said today that the date for a wedding would be set later, but both families hoped it would be soon. Prince 'Ulukalala is currently pursuing studies in Australia while Hon Sinaitakala is a tutor at Queen Salote College in Nuku'alofa. I've crossed paths with some of the Tongan King's extended grandchildren - most of them are in Auckland to further their higher education.

They certainly aren't on par with Queen Elizabeth's grandchildren hehe. But I guess what they lack in natural beauty; they make up for in intellect and personality. Quite a few of them are half Samoan. I know that several of them share the same SAMOAN MOTHER.
