HAVE YOU BEEN TO MOTO'OTUA HOSPITAL?

I just returned from samoa and i went to the main hospital for the first time,i was in shock at the poor condition of all the facilities.I thought i was in a third world country, its sad to see our own people going to the hospital for treatment to get better, but instead they are getting worse. This is another matter that the government should spend money on instead of building a 5star hotel & an airport in savaii.........

I have just spent five weeks in Samoa where I decided to visit Motootua Hospital. I saw families sleeping on mats outside the buildings like homeless people. How about accomodating families some of them came from Savaii and the far villages of Upolu. I turn around & I saw doctors in the common room playing ping pong ( no kidding!!) while at the outpatient clinics many were waiting some up to hours for a doctor!

i must say the conditions are unbecoming of a medical facility. however on a lighter note, there is news of a modern hospital being built next year.

Is it the buildings or the maintenance of the hospital buildings which should be improved? The buildings seems strong and well designed, but they look dirty and unhygienic!! Waterblasting and repainting would be lot cheaper than building new buildings! Some accomdation for families who care for their patients is a must!!

yeah why not build a five-star hotel to accomodate le au kausi mai. Never heard of a hospital where they have accomodation for those who are not sick.

We need to pass a law that politicians including the HOS may not receive medical attention anywhere but the National Hospital.

Watch how quickly it improves.

Agree absolutely with FSM, aga fa'asa ga o i Niu Sila le 'au faipige 'ae o i Motootua, faapegei ua leva ga makua'i lelei uma kogafiki ile falemai i Samoa! You guys spend all our monies taking your big selves to NZ for medical treatment, never the poor majority of us in Samoa!! Why dont we get regular medical chek ups like the PM, Cabinets, CJ, HOS etc etc?? What makes their lives more important than the mothers and others of Samoa??

Because they have the money to pay for it. Does your family have any money to pay for the medical check up? Where do you think we get the money to pay for docors, nurses, hospital admin, hospital building maintenance...etcyawn.gif

cut politicians perks, squirrel funds, hangers on-blowhards-pass the law that all politicians must be treated at the National Hospital and it will become one of the best medical facilities in the World- those guys are selfish.

Do you see John key or Kevin Rudd having a check up at the local hospital?
And again How do you expect our doctor to get paid if the service is free. Just to let you know that the doctor feehere is still cheap. And thank goodness we even have a hospila most countries will be lucky to even get seen by a doctor.

Did you know that people in United states of america don't get free doctors service unless you have full health insurance? If you end up at the ER there, the first thing they ask you if your insured and if your not then too bad a doctor would not even check on you. So yeah maybe Samoa should consider that system.

We already have a hospital.

Did you notice that since we started TV station the number of births have decline in Samoa. Because we now the men have something to lookforward too in he eveingings like watching the super 14 live which is free to air here, and that will keep them busy and not harrassing there female companion for you know what. I'm sur the women in Samoa welcome that choice.....lolsmile.gif
TV has a lot of thing like news,childrens prgrames,movies, sports...etc it's quite informative too......smile.gif

may i also add that doctors took the hippocrates oath. in which it does not say, treat patients only if you get paid. doctors are doctors to treat people no matter if they get paid or not. but, in reality this is not feasible in today's world. where everything is about making a buck.

also, about the us healthcare system comment. you are still treated but you'll have to pay out of your own pocket. i know this because i've there many times. smile.gifciao however, there was a case in which a lady died while waiting in the er because nurses refused to treat her. sad but true..the reality is you risk the quality of healthcare in the us. if they changed the healthcare to a social system.

i believe the quality can only improve if we first improve the facilities. which is in the works through the new modern hospital. only then, inviting speacialists to samoa to train our doctors. instead of them going overseas..they might get lost.smile.gif i think we need to focus more money into those fields we lack specialists in for example the cardiovascular and infectious fields. without a doubt, the majority of patients in samoa either have cardiovascular disease or an infectious disease (because of the weather). why not invest in our own cardiovascular institute?

ciao

Have I been to Motootua Hospital?? Of course not, that's a pig sty!! I go to NZ for my regular govt-paid-for regular 6 monthly chek ups!!

I've just moved to Samoa and I must say it's shocking. Where does the govt's money go?? Not only is the hopsital disgusting, the Dr's aren't even equipped with the most basic tools to treat their patients. I went in not long ago for an emergency and the Dr could not for the life of him find an otoscope anywhere!!

And I noticed the walls looked like something out of a third world country hospital doco, and they do not cover the beds with sheets or anything! That's right, patient after patient lying there leaving blood, marks and stains and they do nothing about it. I had a feeling that night that I was going in for a minor injury and might just leave there with some deadly disease.

Would it kill someone to splash a bit of paint around? How much would it seriously cost to buy some blankets and tissue and gloves maybe??? How can people be treated and recover in a place that just screams disease?!!

But my main point for posting was this thought that I had. What did I expect?!! Look at the condition of most places on the island - literally falling apart. The roads are look as if there had been bombs dropped everywhere. It is a miracle if you drive somewhere that doesn't at least have 4 or so potholes. The buildings are decaying, there is rubbish everywhere - its a sign of a people who just don't care about their surroundings. This continues into the insides of buildings.

How can this country continue to thrive when everything in it and around it is on the decline?

All it takes is for people to care enough to make things clean and at least look half decent. Why try to attract tourists when the place is a dump???

I must also note, that every beach I have been to so far has had at least 1 used nappy lying near the shore line. Come on people, let's clean this place up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems the main concern in Samoa is "Samoa's reputation to tourist"! Excuse me, the tourist are generally not dumb to fall for a Samoan show on reputation! Thats a lot of bull! How about dealing with the needs of the locals first and foremost. Gud health and intelligent questioning and free speaking youths, children and women can tell the tourist great things about our beloved Samoa!! Tourists are attracted to a people in a place that is healthy and genuine, not a country intent on painting a bull picture of what it really is!! Improve our HEALTH services and provide the BEST EDUCATION for all Samoans not just the private rich and famous bull!

I have 2 spare sheets and 2 spare billows. I need to know the address to send them over to. It is not that much but at least that will help.

If there are 50 or more Samoan out there that think they can help, why not donate a sheet and a billow, that will make a bit of an improvement.

Anyone there??

I went there last year to take my cousin who was having chest pain,we told the doctor about her condition & let him know that she has heart problem. His response was that he DOES NOT CARE about her history of heart problems.Oh at that time i wanted to knock him out for his ignorance, how can you treat a patient if you don't know the history of their illness. So instead of him treating her he just left her there & went out to attend another patient, while my cousin was crying because she was in so much pain.We were there for at least 30mins before he came back by that time my cousin could not speak but only cried out loud,it was then he decided to take her inside & have her heart check. They all started running around like idiots when they realised that she was right.I thought if anything had happened to her that day, that idiot doctor would have been sued for neclegent.

This type of **** just aint right...get your act together Samoan doctors and nurses...if you don't want to do your job... F off somewhere else before you kill someone....
